All-Ceramic Restorations

If you have weak, worn, damaged, or misshapen teeth, you may feel that there is no hope for your smile.

Why Choose All-ceramic Restorations?

Restore the Appearance of Your Smile

Aesthetics are a major concern when the front teeth are compromised, discolored, or misshapen. Porcelain can deliver the aesthetic outcome you desire. Dental ceramic is a durable material that closely resembles natural enamel. It reflects light in the same manner as your teeth and can be matched to almost any color.

Long-lasting Results

Dental restorations that are made out of ceramic are a solution that can last for many years. With proper care and a good oral hygiene routine, these prosthetics can last for 15 years or more.

Strong Restorations

Ceramic restorations can restore the form and function of damaged teeth. They can also be used to address lost teeth. The high-quality ceramic material has the strength to withstand the daily wear and tear caused by biting and chewing. No matter the degree of damage, we offer a comprehensive range of restorative dentistry treatments for your smile.

I've been a patient here for about two years. All of the staff and Dr. Andy are caring and friendly without a doubt. But, I think their strength is in their professionalism and attention to detail. They do everything they can to make sure their patients have a good experience and receive the highest quality care available.

Every staff member I dealt with was very professional, polite, and compassionate. I needed to be seen urgently as a new patient and they were able to get me in within 24 hours. After thoroughly explaining to me what needed to be done, they were able to get me another same day appt for some much needed dental work to relieve pain. I am so appreciative of everyone at this office, I will be switching my primary dental care to this place!

After the damaged tissue has been removed, the tooth will be further altered in order to create a base for the crown.

What about
Porcelain Veneers and Fillings?

veneers and fillings
Veneers
are also made of ceramic porcelain material. However, they are not considered a restorative treatment. They are solely used to mask cosmetic imperfections affecting the anterior teeth.

Tooth-colored fillings are a restorative treatment, but the material used in this treatment is not ceramic; it is a composite resin. This material can be shaped directly in the cavity, rather than fabricating the prosthetic in a lab or with a milling machine.

Treatment Timeline

Preparation and the Removal of Damaged Enamel

The first step of treatment is to remove any unhealthy portions that have been damaged by infection. If a crown is being placed, we will also remove some additional tissue to achieve a proper fit.

Digital Impressions

Next, we will take digital impressions so we can design and fabricate a prosthetic that fits precisely and looks attractive.

Design

For crowns and bridges, Dr. Maples will design the prosthetic so that it complements your smile. For some patients, the prosthetic is designed to look like your tooth when it was healthy. In other cases, we aim to enhance the look of your smile by adjusting the size or color of the prosthetic.

Fabrication

Next, we will craft your prosthetic. For crowns, we have an in-office milling machine that can fabricate a crown in a single visit. We also work with a lab that can fabricate custom restorations.

Final Placement of the Custom Restoration

When the prosthetic is ready, we will check its fit and appearance, and then secure it with dental cement.

Caring
for Your All-Ceramic Restorations

The tooth that supports the prosthetic can often be ignored. It is important to keep the supporting oral structures healthy, because if the underlying tissues become compromised, the crown or bridge may have to be replaced. It is equally important to maintain any dental implants you are using to support your restorations. Fortunately, it's easy to prolong the life of your restorations:

Good Oral Hygiene

Ceramic crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays are durable, but they still require good oral hygiene. Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day will help keep both the tooth and the restoration clean, and keep it looking its best.

Avoid Bad Habits

Habits such as biting on your fingernails or opening bottles with your teeth can cause your restorations to wear prematurely or become dislodged. Avoiding these habits can help your restorations last longer.

Visit the Dentist

Visit the dentist twice a year so the health of your smile and the condition of your restorations can be checked. If your restoration becomes cracked or damaged in any way, it can allow bacteria to reach the vulnerable natural tooth, causing cavities or infection.
