Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can perform several functions, including restoring teeth that are broken, worn, or decayed.

These restorations can also be used as a cosmetic treatment to conceal imperfections or paired with dental implants to replace lost teeth.

Dr. Andy Maples offers traditional and same-day crowns for our patients at West Lake Dental in Loveland, CO.

What Is a Dental Crown?

/

Simply put, a dental crown is a cap that covers your natural tooth. They are made from durable materials like porcelain, zirconia, or ceramics. We can create same-day crowns in our office or provide you with a temporary crown if your permanent crown is being made in a lab, so you don't have to wait long for a new smile.

Dr. Andy Maples and everyone at West Lake Dental are truly amazing. I tell all of my friends and co-workers that I truly enjoy going to the dentist, because my dentist office is that good. I recently had a filling and haven't had one for 8 years so I was nervous about what to expect. It was such a great experience from start to finish. I didn't even feel the numbing injections. Dr. Andy called me at 8pm to check on me and make sure I was doing ok after the procedure. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and truly make you feel like they care.

Traditional Dental Crowns A Closer Look at the Procedure

During an initial consultation at our Loveland practice, Dr. Maples can determine if you are a candidate for a dental crown. Treatment usually takes one to two appointments, depending on your specific needs. Here are some basic steps you can expect during treatment:
Many of our patients qualify for same-day crowns.
Many of our patients qualify for same-day crowns.

Tooth Preparation

First, Dr. Maples removes small amounts of enamel from the affected tooth. This helps your new crown adhere properly. Conservative methods are used to retain as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Dental Impressions

Once the tooth is prepared, your dentist takes impressions of the teeth and gums. These impressions are then sent to a dental lab, where a skilled dental technician uses them to fabricate your final restoration.

Temporary Crown Placement

Next, Dr. Maples places a temporary crown to protect the tooth until your permanent crown can be placed. Traditional restorations typically take two office visits; however, many of our patients qualify for same-day crowns.

Permanent Crown Fabrication

If your case is sent to a dental lab for fabrication, the process usually takes anywhere from two to four weeks. A ceramist carefully crafts your dental crown made from natural-looking materials like porcelain to blend in seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.

Permanent Crown Placement

Once your final restoration is ready, your dentist removes the temporary crown and bonds the new one to the tooth. Dr. Maples will check your bite and assess the crown's look and fit to ensure it functions properly.

Take a Look at Crown Placement

After a root canal or trauma to a tooth, you may need a crown. Once your dental crown has been created from high-quality materials like porcelain or zirconia, Dr. Maples can secure it onto your natural tooth or implant. It will blend in easily with the rest of your smile.

I am a retired doctor and new to the area. I was referred to Dr. Maples through family members. I must tell you firstly that I was envious of the manner in which his office is operated. I had practiced my profession for thirty-six years and have not seen a better run operation. The staff is highly skilled and were a kind and caring group. Each time I've visited the office I have been treated like a family member. Rarely do you find such a consistently genuine dental office.
